About Us and our Full time RV Life

We are Jason and Kristel from Exploring Our Compass! We are a full time RV living couple traveling the country with our dog, Winner. Jason comes from a background in aviation. He is an Army veteran, where he worked on AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopters before joining the civilian world to work on corporate aircraft, holding his Airframe and Powerplant license. Kristel's background is in hospitality and bartending. She was a bartender for over twenty years before turning her career towards full time travel and content creation.

In August of 2021, we sold it all for a life that we had talked about for years. It was not easy letting go of our belongings, which included our 2000 square foot home with a pool, nearly all our personal items, and two vintage Volkswagens. The family that purchased our house also bought all our furniture and decor inside of it, which made the transition easier. We still spent a month hosting yard sales, taking trips to Goodwill, and listing items on Facebook Marketplace to clear out the final pieces that could not come with us.

Our family has grown and changed right along with our journey. Our son, Rylan, has since graduated high school and is now following in Jason's footsteps with a career in aviation. Our daughter, Maddie, is still in school. Because they live in the Lowcountry, we needed a rig that was perfect for a couple but could easily transform into a comfortable family space when they visit us. We originally found that balance in a front living Grand Design Solitude, but we recently upgraded to a 2026 Brinkley G3950 toy hauler. The garage space gives us the perfect multi purpose setup, allowing us to easily accommodate the kids when they are with us, while giving everyone plenty of space and privacy.

Our goals have evolved since we first hit the road. While we started out as work campers, we have transitioned into entrepreneurship, running our mobile repair business, Hitch Itch Mobile RV Tech, and doing contracted roof installations through RV Armor. This flexibility allows us to explore new regions, like our current travels through the Mid-Atlantic, while still spending our winters in the Lowcountry to be close to our kids and our local clients.
